Jankovic, Dementieva ousted in Tokyo

Fifth-seeded Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova dismissed the U.S. Open runner-up and former world No. 1 Jankovic 2-6, 7-5, 7-5, while Slovenian qualifier Katarina Srebotnik toppled the third-seeded Dementieva in 6-3, 6-4 fashion on Day 5 at Ariake Colosseum. Dementieva captured this tournament two years ago.

Fourth-seeded Russian Dinara Safina secured a berth in the semifinals by holding off Estonian qualifier Kaia Kanepi 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 6-2, while another upset occurred when Russian Nadia Petrova erased sixth-seeded Pole Agnieszka Radwanska 6-3, 6-0. Safina was this year's French Open and Olympic runner-up.

Saturday's semis will feature a trio of Russians, as Safina will take on her countrywoman Petrova and Kuznetsova will encounter the capable Srebotnik, who upset the Russian in the third round at the U.S. Open just last month. Srebotnik has four wins against Top-10 players this season.

The 2008 champion at this Tier I hardcourt tournament will collect $196,900.

Terrell Owens could return for Cowboys next game
