(Sports Network) - The Washington Capitals have posted the Eastern Conference's best record in each of the past two seasons, but only have one playoff series victory to show for it. General manager George McPhee hopes he has made the right moves to help his club finally break through. After a Presidents' Trophy-winning season in 2009-10 ended with a loss to the Montreal Canadiens in the first round of the playoffs, Washington stepped up its play on the defensive end to go 48-23-11 a season ago.

Hunter lost his second straight start on Sunday in Toronto, as he gave up six runs (four earned) and nine hits in 6 1/3 innings. Hunter is a miserable 1-4 in seven games (six starts) versus the Angels with an 8.79 ERA. The Angels have won five of their six matchups with the O's this season. New York, NY (Sports Network) - The New York Rangers have agreed to terms with defenseman Steve Eminger on a new contract. Eminger posted two goals and six points in 65 games last season with the Rangers, his sixth different club since the beginning of the 2007-08 campaign. The 27-year-old was taken 12th overall by the Washington Capitals in the 2002 draft. In 411 career games, Eminger has registered 17 goals and 74 assists. He has also played for Philadelphia, Tampa Bay, Florida and Anaheim.

Hanson, 25, notched 13 goals and 21 assists in 58 games last season with the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League. He also appeared in six games with the Toronto Maple Leafs. In 42 career NHL games, all with the Maple Leafs, the Pennsylvania native has compiled three goals and six assists.
